Arc 2: Nerissa's Revenge is the second arc of the comics.

The Guardians must face an old enemy of KandrakarNerissa, the corrupted ex-Guardian and the previous Keeper of the Heart. When the Oracle realized how the power of the Heart was corrupting Nerissa, he took it away from her and gave it to Cassidy, the former Guardian of Water. Obsessed with her lost power and blinded by jealousy, Nerissa lured Cassidy into a trap and killed her.[1] As punishment, Nerissa was stripped of her magic and sentenced to sleep in a coffin imprisoned on Mount Thanos until such time as all five elements existed in one person.[2]

When Cornelia accidentally absorbed all five elements into herself,[3] the seal on Nerissa's tomb broke, setting her free.[2] When Caleb was kidnapped, the Guardians faced Nerissa along with her four Knights of Revenge. While successful in their rescue mission, they lost Luba who sacrificed herself to save them.[4] Hoping to steal the Heart, Nerissa later attacked the girls through their dreams in order to weaken them. The girls, however, managed to defeat her in their dreams.[1] Thinking her defeated entirely, the Guardians let their guard down. Nerissa was later successful in stealing the Heart back by tricking Will into giving it to her whilst glamoured as Matt.[5]

With the Heart now corrupted by Nerissa's hatred, the former Guardian and her Knights of Vengeance attacked Kandrakar. Will later met with Cassidy, who gave her a copy of the Heart, a copy of which remains with each keeper. With it, Will and her friends faced Nerissa in Kandrakar.[6] In the final battle, Nerissa plunged Kandrakar into chaos and created a world where the Guardians don't exist but Cornelia's love for Caleb brought the Guardians back to reality. Following the heart returning to Will and the reabsorption of her Knights Nerissa was killed by the Guardians.[7] Despite their victory, Cornelia was heart-broken when Caleb left her due to their complicated relationship and him realizing their differences and that he didn't know the true version of her.[8]
