Parent's Night is the fourteenth episode of season 1 of the TV series.

Plot[]

Main article: /Transcript

It was parents' night at the school, and nobody (except Hay Lin) seemed very excited, especially Elyon. She felt that Cedric was the only one who understood her, not her friends, and especially not her family. When Elyon began her family tree research, her parents did not have any pictures of her other relatives. Elyon thought that it was because they do not care about her, but it's for a whole other reason.

Cedric revealed to Elyon that her parents are beasts, and that she is the Princess of Meridian. Elyon was so confused, but she went to Meridian, her original home.

In the B-story, Elyon was easily taken in by Cedric's lies about her adoptive parents hating her, and her power-mad older brother's true motives. She also discovered the Guardians' identities and displayed her inherent mystical powers for the first time when she lashed out in retaliation and anger.

Release notes[]

  • Beginning with this episode, a new version of We Are W.I.T.C.H. is used for the American opening sequence, replacing the demo version.

Comics connections[]

  • When the girls arrived in Meridian in this episode, they found themselves shrunk and trapped inside a terrarium. This is similar to comic issue 4, where the same thing happened except the Guardians were trapped in an aquarium.
  • In the comics, Elyon's birthday is on October 31 and not March 13.

Possible mistakes[]

  • When the W.I.T.C.H. girls were brooding about Elyon's departure, Hay Lin was barefoot, but when the view shifted to outside the window she was wearing pink socks.

Behind the scenes[]

Quotes[]

Phobos:

Symbols of Elyon's body, mind and spirit.

Cedric:

The Three-Fold Ceremony is complete, my lord. According to the Ancient Ways, her resistance to crossing will now be lowered.

Phobos:

But only for a while. You must now tell my sister who she really is: Princess of Meridian. Then bring her here.

Cedric:

I've already set a plan in motion.

Phobos:

After the coronation all her powers will be mine!

Mrs. Brown:

Maybe it's time she knew.

Mr. Brown:

Yeah, right, that we're not human and she's from another world?

Mrs. Brown:

I had hoped that we'd never have to explain to her that we brought her here to save her life.

Elyon:

What are you?

Mrs. Brown:

Elyon, we brought you to save your life!

Mr. Brown:

You must understand. You needed protection from your brother!

Elyon:

I have a brother?

Cedric:

I would never lie to you. What's more, I cannot lie to Meridian's rightful princess.

Elyon:

What? This morning I was a teenager with no friends. Now I'm a princess?

Cedric:

In Meridian you'll have real friends. Family. A history. You have a brother who misses you very much. It's time you went home.

Cornelia:

Elyon, no matter what he's told you Cedric is not your friend!

Elyon:

More of a friend than you. Why shouldn't I go to this Meridian? At least they're honest there.

Cornelia:

You don't know what you're saying!

Elyon:

Oh, that's right, I never know anything. It's Cornelia who always has the special secrets.

Trivia[]

  • This episode marks the first appearances of Harold Hale and Elyon's adoptive parents Alborn and Miriadel.
  • Elyon's powers were consciously used for the first time.
  • The ceremony started in the previous episode by collecting Symbols of Elyon is completed, and as a result Elyon's resistance was lowered. This, coupled with the revelations regarding her parents, her friends and her true self made it simple for Cedric to lead her to Meridian.
  • Blunk continued with his mission of watching Elyon from the previous episode. This is not the only time in the series that the Guardians assigned Blunk to spy on someone, as in Q is for Quarry, Will tasked him with investigating Sarina Sanchez.
  • This episode shows the longest transformation sequence to date, a blend of the girls' traditional transformation mixed with their first transformation (from It Begins). Only Will transformed in the traditional sense, possibly because in the original transformation she wasn't surrounded by light like the other Guardians.
  • When Elyon discovered the lineage of her true family, the first portrait she saw is of a smiling woman whose hair style resembled that of Princess Leia from the Star Wars series.
  • This episode demonstrates how close Blunk has become to the Guardians. Hay Lin flies back to save him from the spider and when she gets knocked unconcious he will not leave her despite the fact he could have been seriously injured by the spider.
