A new girl, Will Vandom, arrived in Heatherfield and introduced herself to Irma Lair, Taranee Cook, Cornelia Hale and Hay Lin. Meanwhile, all of them saw something wrong on them. Meanwhile, on the evil world, Meridian, which was good in the past, a rebel leader, Caleb and his friend Aldarn tried to take the weapons which the evil Prince Phobos stole. Caleb and Aldarn were spotted and run away. They arrived at Hoogong Gorge and escaped by riding the Hoogongs.
Back on Earth, Hay Lin took Will, Irma, Taranee and Cornelia to her home inside the restaurant, The Silver Dragon. Her grandmother, Yan Lin, arrived. She told them about Meridian and the Veil in which the portals were opening. Yan Lin said there were the Guardians who are tasked with closing the portals by using their powers. Yan Lin showed the Heart of Kandrakar and said they've got powers. Irma saw she can control water, Taranee saw she can control fire, Cornelia saw she can control earth and Hay Lin saw she can control air. Yan Lin gave Will the Heart, saying the one of the five unites the others. Now the Guardians are Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin. Back on Meridian, Caleb and Aldarn escaped and went to Infinite City. Caleb said he couldn't go, because he had to go to Earth to find the real heir to the throne. While trying to find the portal, Caleb was attacked by Phobos' minion, who turned into lizard, Lord Cedric.
Back on Earth, the girls decided to exercise their powers under the bridge. Will transformed and unites the others. The girls were surprised with their Guardian look, particularly their older appearances. The girls played with their powers to limited success.
Whilst Hay Lin took to her new ability to fly easily, Will struggled greatly just to maintain balance. Meanwhile, Irma and Taranee were literally thrown by the force of conjuring their elements of water and fire respectively and Cornelia didn't fare much better when she was not only forcibly lifted by an unexpected cactus but a crack in the earth revealed... a gross worm!
As it became dark, Will returned the girls to their human forms. Back on Meridian, Cedric chased Caleb and Caleb spotted the portal. Back on Earth, Hay Lin also spotted the portal. Caleb threw himself through the portal onto earth and Cedric soon showed up. The girls transformed and fought with Cedric. Caleb yelled to close the portal and Will used the Heart to do this, but, as Will closed the portal, Caleb was kidnapped. Cornelia blamed Will for his disappearance. After what had happened, the girls reported to Yan Lin about what had happened under the bridge. Hay Lin drew Lord Cedric and Yan Lin recognized it as Lord Cedric.
Release notes[]
- In the United States, this episode and It Resumes aired together as a one-hour special to introduce the series, with the title "It Begins and It Resumes". Internationally, the two episodes aired separately.
- The international opening sequence and closing credits used for this episode are both unique compared to those used for the rest of the season.
- The opening is subtly different, with such changes as the first written credits not appearing until the scene with Caleb and Blunk running (as opposed to when Phobos appears above his throne in all other episodes of the season), and the background of said scene itself being colored a darker shade of blue.
- The credits look very different. In this episode only, the screen is split into roughly two halves, with the actual credits being motionless on the left side as opposed to scrolling text in other episodes, and the Heart of Kandrakar rotating on the right instead of behind the credits. Also, the W.I.T.C.H. logo at the top left is smaller.
- The DVD releases of this episode preserve both of these differences. It is notable that on the DVDs, this footage is far more interlaced than that used for other episodes (especially in the opening), providing an additional indication that these versions are from different master copies.
Comics connections[]
- This episode bears similarities to issue 1, with Will moving from Fadden Hills (unnamed in both that issue and this episode) to Heatherfield, the W.I.T.C.H. girls randomly experiencing their powers and Yan Lin revealing to the girls that their destiny is to become the new Guardians of the Veil.
- In the comics, Caleb didn't appear until issue 7, but in the TV series he is the first main character to be seen (not including the title sequence).
- Before going to rescue Will, Taranee said she moved to Heatherfield one year ago, but in the comics, she moved there only a few days before Will.
- It is heavily implied in this episode that Will's real name is Wilma. In the comics, Will's real name is revealed to be Wilhelmina. She prefers to be called Will in both mediums.
Possible mistakes[]
- When Taranee asked Yan Lin, "Uh, did you say five?", Hay Lin's voice is heard.
