Kandor is an agent of Kandrakar who assists the Guardians from Arc 8: Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H. onward.

Personality[]

Oracle Yan Lin described him as calm, controlled, and intelligent. For this reason, she chose him as the caretaker for W.I.T.C.H.’s new school for magical children in Heatherfield.[1] However, he also shows to have a bad temper when agitated. Irma calls him “Grumble Bear.[2]

He's fond of knitting, though prefers to keep it a secret. He also likes books and keeping souvenirs from the many worlds he’s visited.[2] He is allergic to fury creatures like We.[3]

Plot[]

Kandor's history is a bit difficult given the changes that occurred between arcs. He is over two hundred years old[3] and its assumed he’s lived most of his life in Kandrakar, now unable to recall his own last name.[4] He was very fond of Himerish and Yan Lin, getting his picture taken with each of them which she keeps framed in his room.[2]

During Matt Olsen's mysterious time in Kandrakar, Kandor became acquainted to him. It isn’t revealed what parts they played to each other, but both were warriors and Kandor venerates Matt as "Captain".[3] Eventually Matt left Kandrakar to aid W.I.T.C.H. against Dark Mother, remaining on Earth from then on.

When W.I.T.C.H. informed Oracle Yan Lin of new magical children in Heatherfield, she suggested they start a school. They still had students to find and Yan Lin promised to provide them with a place, and offered a caretaker. She summoned Kandor and introduced him to the Guardians. Using his telepathy, he could hear Taranee Cook's rude thoughts about him but laughed it off once he got her apology. He declared the two of them would make good friends and Taranee agreed.[1]

Kandrakar created the Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H. bus with several features that would come in handy. As caretaker, Kandor learned all about the mechanisms as it would also be his job to keep it running though he didn’t like all the modern technology it included.[3] He created his own room on the bus where he put his gym weights, pictures, and souvenirs. It also had a hidden passage which led to his dark room for developing photos, and further on to a sanctum where he would do his secret knitting.[2]

On Oracle Yan Lin's orders, Kandor took the completed W.I.T.C.H. bus to Sleepy Bay where he disguised it as an old van. There he waited for days until W.I.T.C.H., on vacation together and being chased by a mob, stumbled upon it. When they tried the special key on it, the disguise spell broke and Kandor greeted the Guardians. They were annoyed that he hadn’t helped them find the bus, but he explained the importance of searching for answers rather than having things handed to them. Kandor let the Guardians explore the bus a little, then ushered them back out to see the magical logo printed on the bus. This would summon their students as only magical people could see it.[5] After this, he left the girls to their vacation while he took the bus to Heatherfield.

Kandor agreed to visit W.I.T.C.H. in Heatherfield after their first day back to school. He couldn’t find a parking space on the ground, so he stopped the bus high in the air and waited a long time for them to arrive. However, when the Guardians did arrive, they didn’t immediately see the bus so Kandor had to come down and greet them. He recognized Matt who had come with them and kneeled before the boy, calling him "Captain" to the surprise of W.I.T.C.H. Will Vandom was interested to hear more about Matt's past but the boy telepathically told Kandor not to reveal anything, so he didn’t. The group asked about the bus and when he showed it over their heads, he was scolded though defended humans never look up (as they just proved).[3]

Even so, he dropped the bus to the ground and allowed W.I.T.C.H., Matt, and Liam to explore the inside. Hay Lin passed by him and he sneezed, though brushed it off. He gave them the grand tour but was annoyed when Irma Lair started jumping ahead. When they reached Will’s classroom, he explained it to be a training hall and Matt challenged him to a spar. He honorably refused as his new role forbade him from using weapons unless needed. Liam took the challenge and Kandor stood back to watch the battle, amazed by Liam’s speed and keeping Will from stopping them. Liam won the match and left. Matt had hoped to show Will that Liam was dangerous, but she scolded him for his foolishness so he also left. The girls were confused about the boys’ fighting and when asked, Kandor declared he had no ideas as he only read minds, not hearts. Even so, he declared it best not to let unauthorized people enter their bus anymore.[3]

He sneezed again and noticing Hay Lin's backpack moving, he demanded she throw out whatever creature was hidden inside. It turned out to be We who, delighted by Kandor's beard, latched onto his face. W.I.T.C.H. pulled him off and Kandor, disgusted by the creature who he was clearly allergic to, commanded they send him away. Hay Lin asked if We could stay in the bus so he wouldn’t be lonely and while Kandor refused, We latched on again and W.I.T.C.H. didn’t stop them. Cornelia Hale predicted the two would be friends in no time.[3] Despite Kandor's refusal, he was forced to let We live on the bus with him.

The next day, Kandor drove the bus to visit the home of Henry, a child W.I.T.C.H. wanted to enroll in their school. As Kandor predicted, the magical boy could read the sign on the bus. While W.I.T.C.H. held a meeting inside the bus, Kandor decided to dust as he noticed doing so kept We away from him. Unfortunately, his dust rag looked identical to We's tail and W.I.T.C.H. feared he’d hurt their pet. We showed to be alright and Kandor pondered actually using We to dust, though the creature fled. Hearing W.I.T.C.H.'s desire to find more students, Kandor showed them the last section of the bus. He took them to the Lumia engine which powers the bus but could also be useful. Breaking parts of the lumia ribbons, he sent them out of the bus to lead W.I.T.C.H. to the magical children. He suspected off parts of the magic ribbons. These flew out over Heatherfield to guide W.I.T.C.H. to magical children. Given the number of them, he suspected magical people were popping up outside of Heatherfield as well.[3]

From that point, Kandor began a Sunday routine of taking the magical bus to other parts of the world to find lumia strands, take pictures of them, and create a catalog. This would someday help W.I.T.C.H. find student outside of Heatherfield. During his time on Earth, he also developed a love of knitting, learning from magazines.[2]

Over time, W.I.T.C.H. found a ton of magic users, mainly small children though Taranee found elderly woman, Louisa Patterson. When Cornelia discovered the teenage empath-shapeshifter Leah, she brought her to the W.I.T.C.H. bus but Kandor wouldn’t let them in without a password. After failing several times and being rejected, Cornelia threatened to tie Kandor’s beard at which point he let her inside. He watched as all the school students interacted while W.I.T.C.H. took Leah outside to figure out how to help her.[6]

The next day, Leah returned to the bus so Cornelia could examine her powers more closely. They decided to show Leah to someone so perfect they wouldn’t need her to change for them. Kandor, thinking they meant him, came help out. They playfully rejected this and the group took Leah to Kandrakar where Yan Lin - who they were actually talking about – helped the girl find her true face.[6] After this, Leah joined Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H. as a student.

Taranee next found animal-whisperer Sun Moore and as she couldn't speak to the prickly girl, she called a team meeting in the bus. This included W.I.T.C.H., Matt and Liam, plus Taranee's new dog, Flea who Kandor allowed despite his previous rejection of furry things. The following day, Taranee called the group about danger at the Moore's clinic. Kandor picked up the others, then got Taranee and Luna Moore, Sun's twin. He drove them toward the clinic, allowing Liam and Matt to both hop aboard on the way. They joined W.I.T.C.H. in the rescue mission while Kandor remained on the bus, watching We and Flea. Once the danger had passed, W.I.T.C.H. and the Moore twins sat atop the bus to discuss what had happened. The sisters left soon after, with Sun not very enthusiastic about joining W.I.T.C.H. Even so, she would go on to become a member of their school.[7]

Now with so many students, W.I.T.C.H. began their lessons and Kandor had to keep up with cleaning and organizing. He also realized that with so many people, they were making enough noise to be heard outside of the bus. For this reason, he quickly moved the bus to another location to avoid suspicion. The classes continued into the evening when the last child was sent home. Will asked if Kandor had seen We but he told her not to say the creature’s name or else he would attack. Kandor pulled out a flamethrower with intent to use it on We, but seeing W.I.T.C.H.’s disapproval, he lied that it was for cooking. As he was putting the weapon away, We did jump out to hug his face, with Kandor threatening to shave him. Kandor dropped the girls off at their own homes for the night.[8]

While now living with We, Kandor was able to learn the creature’s language, though this might be in part to his mindreading ability.[2]

After a Saturday lesson at the Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H. bus, Kandor had to clean up and was displeased with Irma’s lab which was flooded. He stormed into private his room grumbling about it, unaware that Irma was hiding inside. Her promised himself to talk to her about it on then went to the door of his secret rooms. He answered the sphinx lock’s riddle and considered changing it to a less-troublesome padlock or three-headed guard dog.[6]

The next day, Kandor began his usual Sunday routine by visiting a newspaper stand, not knowing that Irma and Hay Lin were spying on him. He bought his monthly knitting magazine then went back to the bus to begin the day’s work. With W.I.T.C.H. secretly hiding on board, he took the bus to Rome where he treated himself to a cappuccino and croissant for breakfast, as he could only have it the way he liked in Rome. After that, he used his magic camera to take pictures of wandering Lumia that W.I.T.C.H. could use later on to find more students. This finished, he met his contact in Rome and bought the special yarn he’d ordered for his knitting. Finished in Rome, he went back to the bus but noticed someone on board. W.I.T.C.H. hid themselves but Kandor found We who he locked in the bathroom so he wouldn’t attack his beard as usual.[2]

Kandor next took the bus to Texas where he watched a rodeo, bought more yarn, and took more photographs of lumia. After arriving to the Himalayan mountains, he accidentally walked in on We in the bath to which he apologized then went out to the nearby temple to get his yarn. On his return he went back to his room and when the sphinx was still asking strange questions (confused by W.I.T.C.H. who tried to break in) Kandor threatened to throw it out unless it opened up, which it did. Kandor set up his pictures to develop in the darkroom and put his new yarn on his sitting room.[2]

Kandor (and W.I.T.C.H.) visited ten more places that day including Spain, New Zealand, Russia, and Mongolia. In each one, Kandor took pictures and bought yarn. After all this, he returned the bus to Heatherfield and went back to his secret room while W.I.T.C.H. tried to leave the bus. However, We saw them and ran to tell Kandor that the girls had been spying. Too embarrassed to tell them about his knitting, Kandor quickly swapped the boxes of wool for boxes of books and dropped these in the dark room before going to catch W.I.T.C.H. outside of the bus. Acting hurt, he invited the girls back inside, claiming to have known all along about their spying. To prove he wasn’t suspicious, he took the Guardians to his dark room to see the many pictures he had taken, all for the sake of their school and mission. When asked about his "packages" he claimed they were just books and that reading was his only hobby in Heatherfield. He put on such a pitiful act that the Guardians felt bad for suspecting him, especially Irma. To make amends, W.I.T.C.H. promised to help with the housecleaning.[2]

The following day, Kandor threw a party for himself and We, gloating of how he tricked the Guardians. Deciding We had earned his trust, he explained the truth to the creature, including his knitting. He trusted We with this secret since no one but Kandor could understand most of his talk. Even so, he threatened the creature that if he did try to tell anyone, Kandor would make a scarf from his fur. Frightened, We agreed and never spoke a work to anyone. By this point, Hay Lin had also realized that all the places Kandor visited produce really rare yarns, but its unknown if she ever figured out what Kandor was really up to.[2]

Following this, Kandor and We became friends with each other.

The kids of the Magic School were excited about Will’s upcoming swim competition, many of them now big fans of her. Kandor brought them all to see the race, but when Will's powers turned the pool into an illusion of a waterfall, W.I.T.C.H. launched a distraction and Kandor rushed the kids out of the building.[9]

On the day of the Heatherfield meteor shower, Kandor discovered a Rising Star had crashed into the bus. As the remains of someone's discarded magic, it was attracted to the lumia engine and burrowed into it. This caused the bus to start malfunctioning and Kandor called in W.I.T.C.H. to show them the issue. The only way to fix it was to find the person who abstained from magic and convince them to take it back. While W.I.T.C.H. went off to solve the issue, Kandor tried to drive the bus out of town before its malfunctions attracted too much attention.[4]

While on the road, Kandor was pulled over by a traffic cop who asked for his license and vehicle registration. As a member of Kandrakar, Kandor could provide his permits to drive the bus all over the world, but the officer pointed out that the reason he pulled him over was all the magical smog coming from the bus exhaust, which he mistook for pollution. Kandor received a massive find for this which shocked We but they were quickly pulled over again, this time because the back of the vehicle had disappeared. After being fined several more times, Kandor was contacted by Will who had found the Rising’s Star’s source, Margret Hope, who worked in the Heatherfield Observatory. Unfortunately, Margret had originally give up the star due to a heartbreak in her youth which meant that getting her to take it back would be difficult. Kandor thanked the Guardians for their efforts, but decided to come over to meet Margret himself as her star had cause him too many troubles.[4].

By the time Kandor arrived to the Observatory, the bus was barely functional and he had racked up a pile of tickets. Margret was not pleased that he had parked “his wreck” on her property, but just as they were about to start arguing, they looked at each other and fell in love at first sight. Starstruck, Kandor introduced himself thought admitted he had long forgotten his last name. With all thoughts of the bus issues long forgotten, he offered to help Margret with her chores, which she gratefully accepted. As Will told Taranee later, meeting Kandor healed Margret’s past heartbreak and her rising star returned to her, letting the bus return to normal. She still didn’t quite believe in magic, but the girl had hope that Kandor would change her mind.[4].

Following this, Kandor and Margret began to date. Kandor exposed Margret to the magic of the W.I.T.C.H. bus and she became part of the secret.[10] She is never shown using magic, though.

On W.I.T.C.H.'s first day back to Sheffield Institute, Kandor sensed powerful magic activity from Duvall College and drove the bus over to check it out. He discovered it was forcibly transferred Cornelia who had been pranking the school to end the day early so she could return to Sheffield Institute. She insisted she had only been playing small tricks but he asked her that from now on, she keep tricks inside her magic school classes before he drove off.[11]

When the evil Runics threatened Kandrakar, W.I.T.C.H. were signed up to compete against them in the Nune-Boreal competition, aiming to win the prize and keep it from enemy hands. Kandor took the Guardians to Nune-Boreal using the bus which would act as their base of operations while on the planet. W.I.T.C.H. battled the Runics wizards in several games and though the competition was ultimately considered null when the prize was destroyed, W.I.T.C.H. had succeeded in stopping the Runics. Kandor drove them all back to Heatherfield and they worried if the Runics would be a threat in the future.[12]

During the holiday season, W.I.T.C.H. had given their students a break from the magic school. With this free time, Kandor used the bus to take Margret on a trip around the world. He left a note for W.I.T.C.H. that he was "taking the bus to be inspected" and while Margret laughed at such a lie, Kandor defended that he was testing out its abilities. In a single day, he took Margret to a Caribbean beach for breakfast, European restaurant for lunch, and Italian gondola for dinner, all of which pleased her.[10].

When Queen Nihila struck Heatherfield with her zodiac powers, the magical students were put in jeopardy. Kandor and Will gathered them all up in the bus for protection. Will covered the bus in an invisibility bubble, Kandor tried to outdo her by surrounding that with an immaterializing cube, Will upgraded it with a soundless cylinder, and Kandor finished it with a garlic spell so that they were completely undetectable. He stayed in the bus protecting the children until W.I.T.C.H. defeated Nihila and freed Heatherfield from her power.[13]

W.I.T.C.H. discovered Nashter of the Runics hiding on Earth and Will went to inform Kandor. Hearing that the boy was on the run from his council who blamed him for losing to W.I.T.C.H., Kandor agreed it was possible as Runics didn’t accept failure. Will didn’t believe Nash came in peace, but Kandor pointed out that even evil people can change their ways when driven by higher motives. If Nashter was truly an enemy to the Runics, he would prove a valuable ally to W.I.T.C.H. Kandor declared he would talk to Oracle Yan Lin about the situation, but also warned Will not to tell Matt about it. The boy would surely jump to conclusions and if Nash really was dangerous, Will shouldn’t reveal Matt as her weakness. Will agreed with both of these facts and swore not to tell Matt anything. Kandor visited Yan Lin but she didn’t make a decision right away.[14]

Some days later, Will returned to the bus to hear what Yan Lin had said, not pleased they were leaving Nash on Earth. Seeing her vehemence against the Runic who had so far done nothing, Kandor promised that if Nashter put W.I.T.C.H. in jeopardy by using magic he would report it to Yan Lin. Even so, he asked Will to reexamine her suspicions if she truly thought Nashter was still dangerous or if she was letting her past conflict with him blind her judgement. Kandor spoke to Yan Lin again, but this time she only asked him to reveal the Runic to Matt, which he did.[10].

On the day of Heatherfield’s co-ed soccer finals, Kandor brought the magic school students to watch the game. He promised Will that he would keep an eye on Nash to see if he was using magic and while the Runic never did, Kandor spied Irma using a bit to protect the goal. He reported his finding to Will and the Guardian finally realized she was being unfair to Nashter. She teamed up with him and Sheffield’s team won the game, while the two energy users mended some of their animosity. Kandor returned to see Yan Lin in Kandrakar and she showed him the moments after he’d left, where Nashter had witnessed Will and Matt embracing. Kandor asked if Yan Lin decided to trust Nashter and the Oracle agreed that he was no threat. She pointed out to Kandor how Nash's heart was broken at seeing Will with another, proving he’d come to Earth not for revenge but to be close to the person he liked. Kandor agreed with her observations though did not tell them to W.I.T.C.H.[14].

Yan Lin approached Kandor with an idea for extra registration at the magic school. This brought in many new students and though he thought it was a good thing, it put a lot more pressure on Taranee. With W.I.T.C.H. having a play to be in and no time left to rehearse, Irma asked Kandor to take them back in time so they could learn how to act from the right era. He agreed and using the bus, transported them back to 1710's Heatherfield. He parked the bus and waited for them, asking they be careful to not be discovered. W.I.T.C.H. spent two days in this time period, impersonating the Countesses of Rosendorf that they were acting out in their play. On hearing that the real countesses would soon return, the Guardians rushed back to the bus in their period outfits and Kandor transported them back to Heatherfield on the very night of their performance. Luckily, they had learned a lot and put on a wonderful performance.[15]

Kandor helped Will hold a solo class in the bus to teach a few kids how to hold back on using their powers. They were attacked by Lady Kimikal who imprisoned them all in the bus, then disguised herself as Kandor to lure the rest of the Guardians into her trap. This worked and after draining W.I.T.C.H. of their elemental powers, the villain – merged with the bodies of her fallen sisters Lady Giga and Lady Crash – made plans to take over the world. W.I.T.C.H. and Kandor convinced their still-powered students to break through Kimikal’s barriers, but each of them had their abilities stolen as well. The last power taken was the forcefield ability of Laura but as the villains didn’t know how to turn it off, all their stolen powers built up in the bubble until they imploded. The Ladies were finally defeated and all the magic was returned to their rightful owners, as the group celebrated.[16]

Will became distracted from her breakup with Matt and when trying to show the students a spell, it went wrong and instead gave them all magical hair. They enjoyed it, though.[17]

Sometime after this, W.I.T.C.H. seem to have slowed down on their magic school as it’s said they haven’t seen Kandor or We in a long while.[18] They were soon too distracted by their Magical Sovereign tests and personal lives to teach the students, though Will still gave private lessons to her brother, William.[19]

Kandor and We appeared at the party in Kandrakar to congratulate W.I.T.C.H. on their graduation to Magical Sovereigns.[18].

Relationships[]

Margaret Hope[]

He met Margaret Hope during the Guardians' mission to find the source of a nascent star[20] and later he couldn't help the Guardians deliver a letter, because he and Margaret were on a romantic date.[21]

Powers & abilities[]

Kandor's main ability is telepathy, able to read the minds of people around them.[1] This is not a constant ability as he can sometimes not realize when someone wants to communicate something to him.[3]. Along with this, he does show a few magical abilities such as putting a barrier up around the Teach 2b W.I.T.C.H. bus.[13].

Aside from magic, Kandor is said to have been an ex-warrior and even Matt declared his skills to be impressive. Due to now being a caretaker, he is not allowed to use weapons without just reason.[3]. Even so, he keeps weightlifting equipment in his room, implying that he keeps fit.[2].
