Cornelia and Caleb: A Love Not Meant to Be is the third special issue of the W.I.T.C.H. comics. The W.I.T.C.H. comics are known to release a special issue every year that tells a unique story about the girls, such as a what if story, or a deeper look into their own lives.

Synopsis[]

Some time after the defeat of Nerissa, when Caleb ended his romantic relationship with Cornelia, they were both heartbroken and went their separate ways; Cornelia back to Earth and Caleb back to Meridian to live with Elyon and Vathek in the Meridian Palace. The Oracle wondered what would happen if either Cornelia or Caleb made a different decision.

Plot[]

Each story began in Kandrakar where the Oracle expressed his sadness regarding Cornelia and Caleb's separate destinies. The Oracle noticed that even after a pretty long time they were still frustrated over their break up. He then entered a room where he can look through a magical lake and see distant worlds. Here, the two stories start to differ: in one version he looked at Cornelia who was sleeping in her room on Earth and in the other at Caleb who is sleeping in the Meridian Castle on Metamoor. However, in both cases, while the one that is being watched is asleep, the Oracle decided to show them visions of what would have happened if they gave up life on their home planet to go live with the other.

Cornelia's story[]

In Cornelia's storyline, she couldn't bear to leave Caleb, and so gave up her title of Guardian of earth and decided to live in Meridian with Caleb and Elyon. The girls were heartbroken over this decision, but respected it and were glad that Cornelia will be happy.

Cornelia used the last of her power to create a permanent Astral Drop that would take over her life on Earth so that her family would never notice that she left them. The Oracle then stripped Cornelia of her power, but she stayed having the appearance when she was a Guardian. She and Caleb returned to Meridian to live out the rest of their lives.

At first, Cornelia was happy and glad to be with her best friend, Elyon, and her one true love, Caleb. However, over time she grew more and more homesick and longed for life back on Earth. She asked Elyon if there is any magic that could help her, and Elyon gave her a potion that could erase her memory of everything about Earth.

Some time later, the Guardians returned to Meridian to visit Cornelia and see how she was living her life. Orube was now the keeper of the Heart of Kandrakar and Will has taken over as the Guardian of earth. When they arrived at the palace, Elyon explained everything to them and the girls desperately tried to get Cornelia to remember them. Cornelia eventually broke down, crying, and confessed that she never took the potion because she couldn't bear to forget all the wonderful times she had on Earth. In the end, Cornelia left Meridian and returns to Earth and became a Guardian once again, saying her goodbyes to Caleb.

As there is a lost story between them, Cornelia and Caleb stayed in a romantic relationship.

Caleb's story[]

In Caleb's storyline, he decided to live on Earth with the girls so he could be with Cornelia for the rest of his life. When he arrived in Heatherfield, he was amazed and shocked by what he saw. He saw how much traffic and pollution there is and learned what everyday life on Earth is like.

The girls decided to use Elyon's old house as Caleb's new home and they fixed the place up again. Cornelia then told Caleb to wait in the house during the day while she goes to school and she'll come over to visit afterward. Caleb grew more and more bored as time goes on and he decided to explore the city by himself to prove to Cornelia that he could take care of himself. He went searching for work and applied for a construction job, but was chased away due to his lack of work forms. He met up with Cornelia and admitted that he felt so out of place in this world and that his skills can't be applied here. He told her that he may have made the wrong decision in coming to Earth to be with her.

The two of them returned to Elyon's house at night, but a paranoid neighbor mistook them for burglars and called the police on them. Cornelia and Caleb were arrested and taken down to the police station. Cornelia calls Irma and told her of the situation and Irma told her dad to help them out.

After an interview, Irma's father told her that he couldn't do anything for Caleb until he explained who he is and where he came from. Caleb blurted out that he is friends with Elyon and the police were interested in that information due to the Brown family's disappearance. Caleb we kept in the department overnight and the next day, Irma discovered that he was being transferred to another department outside the city.

Cornelia was enraged and commenced a desperate assault against the police car on her own. As the police started shooting, the other girls showed up to support Cornelia's attack. Irma told the girls not to hurt anyone because her father was with them. The girls ripped open the truck and Caleb escapes while the police drew their weapons and opened fire on the girls. One of Irma's wings was shot, she passed out from shock and changed back into her normal form. Irma's father recognized her and the girls realized that their secret was blown and now W.I.T.C.H. were exposed to the world.

Meanwhile, Caleb was on the run from the police and was now branded a fugitive.

Trivia[]

  • When Cornelia gave up her powers, one member of the Congregation said this never happened before: this is not true, since Kadma and Halinor did the same after Cassidy died.
  • Here, Will was shown to wear Cornelia's outfit when she chose to become the Guardian of Earth; however, in the Core of Kandrakar special, her four friends traded powers without exchanging clothes.
  • This W.I.T.C.H. issue is unique because it acts like two separate issues: one with Cornelia's story and one with Caleb's.
